Urban Micro Hydro

This is a kickass idea for capturing unused untapped energy from excess pressure in our water supply pipes. I have seen people in thailand using peltam wheels to generate electricity from open flow sources of water in the city. This takes it to another level. the one company i have found so far is called rentricty.
Rentricity uses an innovative turbine and generator technology called Flow-to-Wiresm, consisting of a micro-turbine, generator, sensors, processors, electronic controls, and communications equipment that operate autonomously. The components are modeled on those used in the hydropower industry. Indeed, the first test of the system is in a public water system where pressure reduction valves (PRVs) in underground vaults relieve excess pressure from water being delivered to customers at lower elevations than the water source. Flow-to-Wiresm captures the energy in the water pressure and converts it to electricity. Since the system operates continuously, it produces electricity around the clock.
they see opportunities for up to 1000MW of power. pretty cool
more info is on their website http://www.rentricity.com/
